Campus Crimes Still Under Investigation

Two robberies and one attempted robbery which occurred during September are all still under investigation, said university police. Campus awareness and security has been heightened after the two attempted and one actual robberies that occurred on and off campus during the first month of classes, according to Douglas Little, interim chief of police.

Charity Softball Tournament

On Saturday, Alpha Phi Delta fraternity hosted its first annual APD Fall Classic, a charity softball tournament for the Starlight Children's Foundation. The Starlight Children's Foundation is a national organization which provides an array of in-hospital, outpatient, school and home-based programs and services to children and their families during an illness and recovery.

Women's Soccer: The Seawolves dropped a 3-2 decision to defending America East champions New Hampshire in its latest match on Oct. 2. The offense was led by freshman Colleen McKenna, who scored both Seawolves goals. The Seawolves struck first midway through the first half, but then fell behind after allowing three straight goals.

Cross Country Season Continues

We are right in the middle of cross country season here at Stony Brook. The air is getting chilly, the leaves are starting to fall, and the Seawolves' men and women cross country teams are alive and kicking. The latest action had the Seawolves split across the country, with the women competing in the Notre Dame Invitational in Indiana and the men competing in the Paul Short Invitational in Lehigh, Pennsylvania.

Stony Brook Hockey Drops Season Opener

Students and fans of all ages packed The Rinx in Hauppauge on Saturday night to see the Stony Brook Seawolves ice hockey team return to action against highly ranked Liberty University. The game was tightly contested throughout, but in the end sloppy defensive play and too many penalties led the Seawolves to drop the game 6-3.

The $700 Billion Bill

The recent economic unsteadiness has sparked a public outcry for government intervention. Main Street's desire for someone "in charge" to fix the economy has forced the government to try and fill a large order. Congress and the Federal Reserve have been charged with saving the failing banking and insurance institutions, while preserving the housing market, keeping sub-prime mortgage holders in their homes all while insuring unemployment and inflation remains low.

Baring Arms Isn't Right

The founding fathers bestowed many unalienable rights. They are most commonly known as part of the document called the "Bill of Rights" one of which is the second amendment of the US Constitution, the right to bare arms. The right to bare arms means the right to own a weapon, which is generally assumed to be fire arms.

Don't be a PC

Its hard to believe how bad Microsoft's new "PC" commercials are. I find it hard to believe how a giant corporation like Microsoft can be so bad at marketing. Surely, someone in the company must realize how ridiculous the ads make Microsoft look. However, since the TV spots were made and continue to air on several channels, the answer ultimately must lie at the top, with current CEO Steve Ballmer.
